Cubs rumored to potentially be interested in Alex Bregman to replace Kyle Tucker image

The Chicago Cubs continue to make questionable decisions, and Ken Rosenthal’s latest report shows exactly why there are still questions around how far they’ll actually go this offseason.

The rotation isn’t good, and the lineup will take a hit with Kyle Tucker likely to leave.

On paper, the Cubs checking in on both a frontline starter and a middle-of-the-order bat makes all the sense in the world. But until they actually do something, how can anyone trust them?

Rosenthal pointed out that while questions around Shota Imanaga’s long-term outlook may be fair, the Cubs still need help in multiple areas.

That includes the rotation, where names like Zac Gallen have come up, and the offense, where replacing Tucker’s production is a priority.

According to Rosenthal, Alex Bregman could be a name to watch to replace Tucker.

“The industry-wide skepticism of Imai might very well be warranted. The Cubs, though, still need a starting pitcher (Zac Gallen?). And a top-flight bat to replace Tucker (Bregman?). Based on their recent history, it’s probably best to bet the under,” he wrote.

Bregman would help fix Chicago’s lineup, but he isn’t exactly a fix-it-all type of player. In his defense, not many are.

Bregman would also require a serious financial commitment, and that’s where it’s fair to question Chicago.

Until Chicago proves otherwise, linking them to Bregman might just be to make everyone happy. Jed Hoyer has the chance to do it, but he hasn’t yet.
