The Chicago Cubs' 2025 season should be considered a success. They made the playoffs for the first time in a full season since 2018, and advanced past the wild-card series, but were ultimately defeated by the Milwaukee Brewers.
There were a lot of great takeaways from the Cubs' season, and one of them was right-hander Brad Keller, whose first season as a Cub was a major success. Keller is set to hit the open market once the free agency period opens.
Brad Keller is interested in re-signing with the Cubs
According to Patrick Mooney of The Athletic, Brad Keller would love to return to the Cubs if they were to extend him an offer. Here is the message from Keller:
“Chicago is my favorite city,” Keller said. “I love being in Chicago. I love playing for the Cubs. This is definitely a place that I want to come back to and enjoy. I know a lot of these guys are returning to this clubhouse, and I feel like there’s something special here. I would love to be a part of it, for sure.”
Keller, who is now 30, will have a larger market this offseason after he signed a one-year, $1.5 million deal before the 2025 season. He posted a 2.07 ERA in 69.2 innings over 68 appearances. He also struck out 75 batters and had a 1.5 bWAR this season.
The Cubs should absolutely consider re-signing Keller, as he and Daniel Palencia created a strong one-two punch in Chicago's bullpen throughout the season.
MLB teams in the past have shown hesitancy in signing older relievers after one good season, but after being an unsuccessful starter for the Royals, his transition to a bullpen role after the 2023 season came with a lot more production.
