This move won't get the hype that the Edward Cabrera trade did just a day ago for the Chicago Cubs.

But it's clear that the Cubbies have wanted to add pitching this offseason, and they did again on Thursday with a lowkey free agent signing.

MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reported the deal: The Cubs have signed right-handed relief pitcher Jeff Brigham to a minor league contract that includes an invite to major league spring training.

Brigham most recently pitched in four games for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2025, allowing three runs in 3.1 innings pitched.

He has thrown in 94 career MLB games spread across the Miami Marlins, the New York Mets and the DBacks.

Brigham will turn 34 in February. He was released by the Diamondbacks in August and has been a free agent since then.

The Cubs have already signed a host of relievers: Phil Maton, Hunter Harvey, Hoby Milner and Jacob Webb.

That quartet will likely be ahead of Brigham in the pecking order heading into the spring. He'll have to perform admirably in the Cactus League to have a chance at the Opening Day roster.

Otherwise, it could be a start to the season in Triple-A Iowa for Brigham.

His career 4.85 MLB ERA doesn't scream a huge piece of the season, but with relievers, you never really know. Sometimes, there's just that little bit better in one year than the previous, and it can make all the difference in an oft-times fickle role.

Brigham at least gives the Cubs one more arm to check out and find a potential role for.
