Verizon's service was down around the country for a long time on Wednesday.
The outage had an amusing impact on one piece of the Boston Red Sox free agent news, too.
It came in how it affected one of the top writers on the Red Sox beat, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.
Cotillo is often the one breaking news about the Red Sox.
But when Ranger Suarez signed on Wednesday, Cotillo was nowhere to be found.

This is what he posted on X to explain it:
Red Sox didn’t make a free agent signing for 2.5 months. Their $130M spend came in the midst of a Verizon outage seconds after I landed after having a flight diverted (first time ever) for 4 hours due to weather. That is a new low. High alert. Spots remain.

This, of course, doesn't actually impact the fact that the Red Sox have added an impressive left-handed pitcher to their rotation.
It's gotta be a bummer for a guy who is usually on top of the news, though.
Cotillo will surely be all over the next move, of which Boston likely has more coming -- well, as long as Verizon stays available.
