Red Sox's Roman Anthony breaks silence on contract extension image

The Boston Red Sox called up their top prospect earlier this year. Roman Anthony is also the top prospect in baseball, and there are already questions about when the team will extend him.

Anthony has slashed .193/.324/.333 so far. However, the team clearly belives in him. The Red Sox extended Kristian Campbell this year and they also have Ceddanne Rafaela signed to an extension as well. It is not wrong to think they they want to extend Anthony who was an even better prospect than them.

Anthony is still trying to figure things out in the big leagues. He is starting to hit better, slashing .300/.432/.433 in his last nine games. However, the young star has not had any conversations about an extension yer, according to the Boston Herald's Mac Cerullo.

"No, not at all. I haven’t heard a peep from anyone about anything," Anthony said, per Cerullo. "I think right now the goal is pretty clear for me, it’s to worry about showing up every day and doing what I have to do here in order to help this team win. There haven’t been any talks of that and I think credit to the Red Sox for kind of letting me go out and play, but no, there hasn’t been anything."

The Red Sox jhave shown that they are willing to ink their young stars to deals before the price tag gets out of hand. In Anthony's case, he noted that he has a desire to stay with Boston long-term.

"I think it’s a matter of how it looks and how it works on both ends, but obviously for me and my family and my agency, knowing this is a place I came up through and yeah, I would love to play here for sure," Anthony said, according to Cerullo. "But at the same time understanding and trusting who I am as a baseball player and how much I believe in myself.

"But yeah, obviously I’d be open to that but as far as numbers or anything like that, I don’t really know, I don’t know where we’re at," he continued. "Like I said, I’m focused on finishing this year out and continuing to learn and get better every day, and we’ll go from there."
