Red Sox’s Ranger Suarez makes Yankees admission in opening press conference with Boston image

Ranger Suarez was officially introduced by the Boston Red Sox earlier in the week, and during his opening press conference, the veteran left-hander shared a story about the Red Sox and the New York Yankees.

While discussing what interested him in Boston, Suarez said that his earliest memories of the game often involved matchups against the Yankees, questioning why fans were mostly Yankees fans, not Red Sox fans.

“When I was a kid and we would watch baseball, what would be on was Red Sox-Yankees,” Saurez said, per NESN. “I asked, ‘Why is no one going for Boston?’ And that is where the interest started… Babe Ruth pitched here and played here, and you hear about Pedro Martinez and David Ortiz and all of the legends that have come through here, and that’s what really captivated me about this opportunity.”

Yankees fans might not want to hear it, but times have changed a bit. Throughout a lot of Suarez’s lifetime, the Red Sox have been the better team.

For a pitcher who spent years facing the Red Sox as an opponent, he’ll have a chance to help them out now in a massive way.

The Yankees connection made the moment even more fitting, as it’s always good to hear a Red Sox player who wants to take down the Yankees.
