The New York Yankees stayed alive on Wednesday night by beating the Boston Red Sox, 4-3, in Game 2 of the American League Division Series.

Now, the two teams will play a winner-takes-all Game 3 on Thursday night to decide who's postseason continues.

In a one-run game, every play is important, and Red Sox's star outfielder Jarren Duran learned that the hard way in Game 2 when his error in the fifth inning gave the Yankees the lead.

Jarren Duran Breaks Silence on Drop

The Red Sox and Yankees were tied at two in the fifth inning when New York had a runner on second base and two outs with Aaron Judge at the plate.

Perfect scenario for Yankees' fans right? Judge lined one to Duran in right field, and it dropped fast. Duran went into a slide to make the catch, but dropped the ball and the runner from second base scored to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead at the time.

"I was just playing pretty deep on Judge. As I was coming in, I thought it was hit a little harder than it was," Duran recalled in the Boston clubhouse (h/t cbsnews.com). "I kind of gained more ground than I thought. I didn't have to go into a full dive there. Kind of just pushed the ball on myself a little more and it got up on me. It's on me."

It was a tricky play because of the way the ball came off the bat, but it's a play Duran makes nine times out of 10.

Red Sox's shortstop Trevor Story hit a home run in the next half inning to tie the game once again. However, if it wasn't for Duran's error, Story's home run would have given Boston the lead.

"This one is going to sting for a little bit. I know that game is 100% on me," Duran said (h/t cbsnews.com). "If I make that play, Trevor hits the homer and we take the lead. But I messed it up, gave them momentum and things happened from there. That one is one me. I'm going to have to wear that one."

Luckily for Duran, the Red Sox and Yankees are back out on the diamond today for Game 3. Baseball normally has its way giving you either a chance at revenge or to prove yourself, and Duran will likely get opportunities on Thursday to do so.

The Yankees will send rookie pitcher Cam Schlittler to the mound for Game 3, and although Duran has never faced New York's starter, he will get a favorable righty on lefty matchup.

The Red Sox and Yankees play their all important Game 3 tonight at 8:08 p.m. at Yankee Stadium.
