The Boston Red Sox have not played great baseball this year, but still have a chance to make the postseason. They are 2 1/2 games out of a wild card spot entering play on Saturday.
The Red Sox could make additions at the trade deadline to help their postseason push. They have needs in the starting rotation and the infield. Their infield should get some stability when Alex Bregman returns. The team's No. 2 prospect Marcelo Mayer has been manning third base and is starting to swing the bat better.
However, when Bregman returns, Mayer will need a new spot. Presumably, the team would move Mayer to second base, with Kristian Campbell in Triple-A, and working on playing first base. However, FanSided's Stephen Parello suggested the team trade for Willi Castro of the Minnesota Twins.
Mayer and Campbell could be the future of the Red Sox infield, with Mayer playing shortstop and Campbell playing second base. However, right now neither player is a star, and Trevor Story is blocking Mayer from taking over at shortstop. Castro is going to be a free agent after the season, and is better suited to help the Red Sox win right now.
He is slashing .24/.362/.435 with seven home runs on the season. He was an All-Star last year, and his numbers are better across the board this season.

The Red Sox will need to turn things around quickly if they want to play baseball in October. Adding Castro could be a huge step in the right direction while Campbell and Mayer develop.
