The Boston Red Sox are back to a losing record after falling to the division rival Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.
The team had high hopes of returning to the playoffs after an offseason of significant additions but has disappointed so far. As a result, they could be looking to make some significant roster changes in the near future.
Even after adding a slew of veteran talent to the roster this winter, the Red Sox came into this season with an exciting “big three” in prospect talent. They’ve already called up two of those players in Kristian Campbell and Marcelo Mayer, but the highest-ranked one, Roman Anthony, is still playing in the minors.
Writing for On SI, Jackson Roberts predicted a specific date for Antthony to receive his call up.
“Anthony has been ready for a while now, but the Red Sox’s outfield is so crowded that it’s been hard to figure out when he’ll fit into the picture, barring another injury,” Roberts wrote. “With that, here’s a best guess for the actual date Anthony makes his big-league debut: Monday, Jun. 9 at Fenway Park against the Tampa Bay Rays.”

Roberts noted that the Red Sox could call him up a bit earlier as they have a homestand against the Los Angeles Angels in the preceding series, but that will be followed quickly with a trip to Yankee Stadium, which might be a bad way to kick off Anthony’s tenure.
As a result, perhaps the earliest opportunity to call up the number-one overall prospect in all of baseball will be when the team hosts the division rival Rays in the near future.
