The Boston Red Sox have prioritized adding pitching this offseason.
They could be in line to get some more, if they want to pull off a big trade.
ESPN's David Schoenfield has listed the Red Sox as the best trade fit for Milwaukee Brewers right-handed ace Freddy Peralta.
Schoenfield gives Peralta a 25% chance overall of being traded. If Peralta moves, there's a strong case that he ends up in Boston.
"It's also about the churn of talent for (the Brewers)," Schoenfield writes, "and trading Peralta could result in landing his long-term replacement. That's where the Red Sox fit. The American League East is shaping up as a tough race, and the Red Sox are deep in pitching prospects to swing a deal if that's what the Brewers desire, including MLB-ready starters Tolle and Connelly Early (who impressed in a four-game stint late in the season). The Brewers went for major-league-ready players in Ortiz and Hall in the Burnes trade, rather than prospects in the low minors, so if they trade Peralta, that would likely be their inclination once again. The Red Sox could also trade from their crowded outfield. Jarren Duran has the most service time but still has three seasons of team control, so three years of Duran for one year of Peralta isn't the best match."

This may be less crucial for the Red Sox than it seemed earlier in the offseason.
Boston already swung a trade for veteran right-handed pitcher Sonny Gray. Peralta is on a different level, though.
Peralta may not be a household name because he's been pitching in Milwaukee, but he helped lead the Brewers to the best regular season record in baseball in 2025. And he's more in his prime than Gray is.
The Red Sox could build a rotation around Garrett Crochet and Peralta. It's a deal worth pursuing if it really is on the table.
