Red Sox-Marlins trade idea brings Garret Crochet some much needed help image

The Boston Red Sox traded for Garrett Crochet in the offseason. He has been the lone bright spot in their starting rotation. They will need to get him some help if they want to play in October.

Red Sox starters have the ninth-worst ERA in baseball at 4.29. Crochet has a 2.34 ERA, so it's safe to say he is carrying the group. However, the Red Sox are just 2 1/2 games out of a wild card spot, and trading for a pitcher could help them make the postseason. FanSided's Stephen Parello suggested they could trade for Edward Cabrera.

"An under-the-radar candidate for the rotation might be Miami's Edward Cabrera," wrote Parello. "The oft-injured righty has an expansive repertoire and some strikeout upside, but walks too many batters. With two more years of arbitration, Miami could look to move on before his salary begins to balloon, giving the Red Sox the opportunity to land a cost-controlled 27-year-old hurler. He wouldn't come without risk, as he's never thrown more than 99.2 innings in a single season, but the upside might make him a gamble worth taking."

Cabrera has a 3.41 ERA in 14 starts. He has dealt with some injuries, but has shown at times that he can be a star. He is under club control through 2028, so he would not be cheap.

The Red Sox have stayed alive in the postseason race despite a poor starting rotation, Alex Bregman's injury and parting ways with Rafael Devers. If they were to address the rotation and get Bregman back, they could go on a nice run.

Bregman could be back as soon as next week. How the Red Sox play going into the All-Star break could have a huge impact on the team's decision-making at the trade deadline.
