The Boston Red Sox continue to search for answers in their infield after losing Alex Bregman, a loss that could put them in a weird spot. Had the Red Sox done what they’ve done and also re-signed Bregman, they’d probably be the best team in the AL.
That wasn’t the case and they’ll have to make some moves to figure that out.
According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Red Sox could make a late push for Eugenio Suarez as they look to replace Bregman.
After losing Bregman and missing out on Bo Bichette, Boston needs some juice in its lineup.
“Suárez is the biggest bat left on the market, and the Pirates, Tigers and Reds would all make sense as they look to add some pop to their respective lineups,” Feinsand wrote. “A return to Seattle would also be a natural fit for Suárez, though the team that could now make a push for him is the Red Sox, who lost Alex Bregman and missed out on Bo Bichette, leaving a hole in the infield. Suárez could play third base, shifting Marcelo Mayer back to second base.”
Suarez would bring proven power after hitting 49 home runs a season ago. He struggled a tad with the Seattle Mariners in the second-half but has been very good
While Suarez comes with defensive problems, his ability to change a game with one swing is something a contender like the Red Sox would always love to have.
