Red Sox get more good news on Alex Bregman free agency image

It feels like every baseball writer has, at some point this offseason, made it seem like Alex Bregman will return to the Boston Red Sox in free agency.

There have been plenty of other links, too, including the Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs.

But in a new article on MLB.com, Anthony Castrovince again connected Bregman to the Red Sox.

At some point, these guys have to be right, don't they?

Bregman brought great leadership and production in his first year in Boston.

The Red Sox certainly want him back.

"A possibility that seemed like a no-brainer at the start of the offseason has dragged on for months, but it might be more probable now than it was then," Castrovince writes. "The Blue Jays were lurking as a possibility until they signed Kazuma Okamoto. The Diamondbacks were a rumored alternative, but only in the event that they moved Ketel Marte’s salary, which reportedly isn’t happening now. The Cubs pursued Bregman last offseason, but they would probably be more likely to address the outfield at this point. And because Boston won’t be landing Marte, Bregman's positional fit and leadership remain right for the Red Sox."

That first sentence is quite encouraging, that it's more probable now than ever.

The Red Sox are probably in the best division in baseball in the AL East, so they could use all the positive free agent developments they can get.

Getting Bregman back would make this offseason a win. Boston has to make it happen.
