The Boston Red Sox turned Major League Baseball on its head by trading superstar slugger Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants.
Devers had grown frustrated with the Red Sox after he was removed from third base and was only a DH this season. Boston ended up trading him, which shocked many, including seven-time MLB All-Star and Red Sox legend Manny Ramirez.
Ramirez, who was a seven-time All-Star and helped Boston win the World Series in 2004 and 2007, spoke to MLB insider Hector Gomez and believes the Red Sox didn't treat Devers fairly.
“The Red Sox handled this Devers situation pretty badly. They should have talked to him since the beginning about him moving to a different position and not just drop that on him during spring training. It was wrong by the organization and shows the lack of the experience from the GM and the lack of a clear guide within the team. They should have never treated Devers that way…

“Devers needed to have people advising him there on the team. I'm telling you this because I really wasn't well, and David and Pedro were fighting with me to advise me,” Ramirez added. “But I was so bad, that I never let them advise me. And David Ortiz, look how he's come out on top in Boston. He let himself be advised. Most Latinos don't come out on good terms with their teams.”
Ramirez believes the Red Sox didn’t treat Devers fairly, which ultimately led to him being traded to the Giants.
Devers is in the second year of his 10-year, $313.5 million deal. The Red Sox got the Giants to take on the entirety of the contract.
Devers is hitting .272 with 15 home runs and 58 RBIs this season. He’s a three-time MLB All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger Award winner, while also helping the Red Sox win the World Series in 2018.
