The Boston Red Sox saw their season come to an end on Thursday after a 4-0 loss to the New York Yankees in Game 3 of the American League Wild Card series.
Now, with the offseason starting for the Red Sox, two major decisions loom regarding infielders Trevor Story and Alex Bregman.
Both Story and Bregman can opt-out of their current deals with the Red Sox. Now with the season over, both players were asked about the potential of departing Boston.
“It’s not at the top of mind. I’m not gonna speak on that right now,” Story told Chris Cotillo of Masslive.com. “But I came here to be here for a long time.”
Story just wrapped up the fourth season of a six-year, $140 million deal he signed in 2022. After struggling through injuries for the first three seasons of his contract, Story got back on track in 2025, slashing .263/.308/.433 with 25 home runs and 96 RBIs in 157 games.
Bergman signed a three-year, $120 million deal before this season. He slashed .273/.360/.462 with 18 home runs and 62 RBIs this season. Bregman also made his first All-Star appearance since 2019 in his first campaign with the Red Sox.
Despite that, Bergman hasn’t indicated any commitment to remaining in Boston just yet.
“Not even thinking about that at all right now. Thinking about the game that just happened,” he said following the loss. “I’m gonna think about this game and the guys in the room and start my offseason. Get after it and become a better baseball player.”
