Garrett Crochet passes Red Sox franchise legend for history in Blue Jays start image

The Boston Red Sox might have made the move of the offseason by trading for Garrett Crochet and then signing him to a long-term extension. Boston picked up a crucial win against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday that kept them firmly in a wild-card spot.

Crochet threw 8 strong innings against the Blue Jays, and with his six strikeouts in the game, he's now eclipsed 250 strikeouts on the season. Crochet should absolutely get votes for the American League CY Young this offseason.

Garrett Crochet passes Pedro Martinez in Red Sox history

With Crochet's six strikeout performance against the Blue Jays, Garrett has passed team legend Pedro Martinez for the second-most strikeouts by a pitcher in their first season in Boston, per Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic.

Chris Sale has the record with 308 in his first season with the team back in 2017.

That Blue Jays start was likely the last for Crochet in the regular season, and what a marvelous season it was for the tall lanky lefty with a funky delivery.

Over 32 starts and 205.1 innings, Crochet finishes with 255 strikeouts on the season and a 2.59 ERA. He led the AL in K/9 with a remarkable 11.2 mark. Will Crochet win the AL CY Young? It's unlikely with Tarik Skubal also having a dominant season, but there's no doubt Crochet has solidified himself as a top-five starter in the game of baseball.
