The Boston Red Sox's season came to an end of Thursday night as the Yankees won Game 3 of the wild card series to advance to the ALDS and send their rivals from Boston home.
With the Red Sox entering offseason mode now, it bring up the question of star third baseman Alex Bregman's contract.
The Red Sox's leader has two years remaining on his deal, but can opt-out of that contract, and all signs point toward that being the avenue he'll take.
Garrett Crochet Gives Thoughts on Bregman's Red Sox Future
Bregman has $40 million over the next two years remaining on his current contract, but could opt-out this offseason to look for a bigger, long-term deal.
If the star third baseman does, that doesn't necessarily mean his time in Boston is over. The Red Sox could still negotiate with Bregman, it would just be against any other team that chooses to as well.
After the Red Sox's loss to the Yankees, star pitcher Garret Crochet shared his thoughts on Bregman and his future in Boston.
Alex Bregman sat at his locker in full uniform until after 11:30. He was the last player in uniform in the clubhouse.

"Where he ends up, I hope it’s with us," Crochet said. "But that’s a guy I’ll root on for the rest of his career."
Crochet's words reflect the impact Bregman had on the Red Sox, not only on the field, but in the clubhouse as well. One of the main reasons there's belief the Red Sox will resign Bregman is because of his leadership among Boston's roster.
You can also tell that Bregman has developed true relationships with his teammates and that could play a role in where he ends up.
“It was an honor to put on this jersey.”

Following the loss of Thursday night, the star third baseman was emotional as he talked with reporters. Bregman didn't give any hints on his future, but he did talk about how much he enjoyed the 2025 season.
Bregman will be in line for a huge contract this offseason. The Red Sox's star had his best season since 2019 this year, hitting .273 with an .821 OPS, and made his third All-Star game.
Whether it be in Boston or somewhere else in 2026, Bregman is in his prime and will make an impact wherever he's playing.
