Analyst claims Triston Casas is ‘fortunate’ Red Sox haven't demoted him yet image

Major League Baseball analyst Sean McAdam of MassLive believes Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas is fortunate he hasn’t been sent down to Triple-A.

Casas was expected to be a big part of the Red Sox offense, as the 25-year-old was set to be a full-time MLB player. However, to begin the season, Casas has struggled, and McAdam believes the 25-year-old is lucky he hasn’t been demoted to the minors.

“When Casas smoked two homers in the span of two games at the end of the last homestand, it seemed as though the first baseman was figuring things out,” McAdam wrote. “Alas, not yet. Six extra-base hits in 94 at-bats is not what the Red Sox were expecting. Casas is fortunate that there are no other obvious options within the system, or else he might already be in Worcester, trying to fix his swing.”

Casas is hitting just .184 with 3 home runs and 11 RBIs this season in 98 at-bats, as it has been a disappointing start to the season for the former first-round pick.

However, Casas is starting to turn it around as in the last seven games, he’s hitting .273 with 2 home runs and 7 RBIs. But, as McAdam writes, Boston has no one pushing for his spot which has allowed Casas to remain in the lineup and work through his slump.

Casas is under team control through the 2028 MLB season. He was selected 26th overall in the 2018 MLB Draft. He made his MLB debut in 2022.
