TL;DR
- Baltimore Orioles expected to be active in offseason markets for pitching and outfield.
- Kyle Tucker and Framber Valdez are potential targets for the Orioles.
- Alex Bregman unlikely to join Orioles due to crowded infield depth.
- Orioles infield features Jackson Holliday, Gunnar Henderson, and Ryan Mountcastle.
The Baltimore Orioles are one of the teams many insiders expect to have an active offseason. Whether it's in the starting pitching, closer, or outfield markets, the Orioles are set to be aggressive this winter.
Mike Elias is considering several former Houston Astros players, with Kyle Tucker and Framber Valdez standing out as excellent potential acquisitions. However, another former Astros free agent might also be a possibility this offseason.
A new report from Will Sammon and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic has significantly diminished the possibility of Alex Bregman rejoining Elias in Baltimore.
The reasons why Alex Bregman probably won't join the Baltimore Orioles
"Elias was the Houston Astros' scouting director who chose free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman second and Kyle Tucker fifth in the first round of the 2015 draft." Sammon and Rosenthal write. "... Stocked with infielders, the Orioles are not expected to pursue Bregman."
Baltimore might find success by focusing on some ex-Astros players signed during Elias' time, though Bregman isn't anticipated to be among them.
The rationale is evident: the Orioles' infield depth is too congested for a player such as Bregman.

Jackson Holliday, Jordan Westburg, Coby Mayo, Gunnar Henderson, and Ryan Mountcastle make up a crowded infield, and that isn't even including the lack of a designated hitter spot, thanks to Samuel Basallo and Adley Rutschman.
The Orioles don't have any room for Bregman, and while he would be an upgrade over a few of their current infielders, it doesn't make sense to add Bregman and move on from young talent.
While Tucker and Valdez appear to be feasible acquisitions, Bregman isn't a viable candidate for Elias and Baltimore, given the Orioles' packed infield. It's improbable that Bregman will join the Orioles, as he's expected to sign with another team.
