The Baltimore Orioles are the team to watch after their blockbuster deal on the morning of Dec. 10 for former New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso.
Alonso signed a five-year, $155 million contract to join an Orioles squad that struggled in the 2025 season, finishing in last place in the AL East with a 75-87 record.
It appears that Baltimore isn't done either. The Orioles may be back in their window to contend for a World Series in 2026. With recent rumors, adding another All-Star pitcher to their rotation could be in the works.
Orioles among teams pursuing Brewers RHP Freddy Peralta via trade
According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon, the Orioles, along with the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants, Houston Astros, and the New York Mets, are among the teams interested in trading for Milwaukee Brewers ace Freddy Peralta.
Peralta, 29, would bolster any big league pitching staff after going 17-6 in 33 starts with a 2.70 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and striking out 204 batters in 176.2 innings.
He is owed $8 million in 2026 before becoming a free agent next winter. Teams won't be excited for the expiring contract, but getting the right-hander for just $8 million a year would be the beneficial aspect of getting a deal done.
Rosenthal and Sammon also mentioned that "no deal appears close," but "talks are fluid."
Although nothing is set in stone, the trade status of the two-time All-Star will be worth monitoring through the Winter Meetings as well as the rest of the MLB offseason.
