Van Loon is 26 years old, and the 6-foot-5 righty did a good job to rise up the system after going in the 16th round in 2021.
Working in a relief role, Van Loon was really effective at Double-A Chesapeake in 2025. He had a 3.38 ERA.
Van Loon got just six outings at Triple-A Norfolk and struggled there to the tune of a 10.45 ERA.
He was a great strikeout pitcher at every step on the minor league ladder, punching out 10.7 batters per nine innings.
Walks became a bigger issue for Van Loon in the last couple seasons and were part of what contributed to his struggles at certain points in his career.
The Orioles were likely planning to start Van Loon back at Triple-A this season, but instead, his career appears to be over.
