Rangers' 2.18 ERA starter could be great fit for Atlanta Braves in free agency image

The Atlanta Braves did not have the season they had hoped for in 2025. After missing the MLB playoffs altogether, the organization now looks towards the offseason, where they have a chance to make impactful signings in the free agent market.

Atlanta dealt with several injuries to its pitching staff throughout the season, and that means a depth starter should be at the top of the team's offseason wish list. While they may not be in play for some of the huge free agent names, Atlanta could sign a veteran starter who was with the Texas Rangers this season.

The Atlanta Braves should target Tyler Mahle

The Atlanta Braves should target Tyler Mahle, who is set to be a free agent this offseason, as he would be a great fit for the team's starting rotation.

Mahle dealt with his fair share of injuries this season and missed the back half of the campaign altogether, but the Rangers had already been out of contention that they decided to shut him down.

Although he made just 16 starts in 2025, that is more than his output in both 2023 and 2024 combined.

In 86.2 innings this season, Mahle recorded a 2.18 ERA and a bWAR of 2.1.

The Braves were essentially picking up starters off the street in August and September just to get through the season, and the starting rotation should be a top priority for Atlanta if they want to get back to the playoffs in 2026.
