Three open manager vacancies have been filled this month, with the Angels hiring Kurt Suzuki and the Rangers hiring Skip Schumaker. The Giants are also finalizing a deal for Tony Vitello to become their next manager.
However, the Atlanta Braves are still searching for the right candidate to fill their vacant manager spot. Free agency is just a few weeks away, and teams usually like to decide who they have at the manager spot before then. So, what updates have the Braves received regarding their managerial search?
Braves insider provides updates on potential candidates' status
According to Braves' reporter Mark Bowman, names such as Mark DeRosa and David Ross have fizzled out as potential options into October.
Bowman also indicated that former Blue Jays' manager John Gibbons is also not an option.
The initial consensus was that the Braves would hire from within with either Walt Weiss or Eddie Perez. However, their potential to be the next Braves manager may have died after Atlanta couldn't convince Snitker to manage for one more year.
Some other rumors that Bowman is hearing is that the manager could come from this year's World Series, with Dodgers' bench coach Danny Lehmann's case being strengthened over the last few weeks.
Other potential candidates may include Cubs' Ryan Flaherty and Tigers bench coach George Lombard.
