The Atlanta Braves announced on Monday that they have placed catcher Sean Murphy on the 10-day injured list with a torn labrum in his right hip.
This unfortunate injury will end Murphy's 2025 campaign.
Murphy, 30, has had himself a subpar season thus far, but it has been mainly in part with the Atlanta catcher dealing with injuries before the season started. Murphy sustained a cracked rib during a spring training game back in February, which caused him to miss four to six weeks and not return until April.
Since reverting back to catching duties for Atlanta, he has had a fair season in terms of production at the plate, recording a slashline of .199/.300/.409 and an OPS of .709 in 94 games played.
Even with a middle-of-the-pack slashline, Murphy was struggling in his last 7 games before landing on the IL, only recording one hit in his last 18 plate appearances and recording a slashline of .056/.056/.111.
In the corresponding move, the Braves have selected the contract of veteran catcher Sandy Leon from Triple-A Gwinnett. Atlanta has also recalled right-hander Dane Dunning and optioned southpaw Hayden Harris.
