The Atlanta Braves made several roster decisions Friday as they continued preparations for what is expected to be a busy offseason. Atlanta has already seen changes over the past few weeks, beginning with infielder Ha-Seong Kim opting out of his contract to become a free agent. Earlier this week, the Braves also traded defensive specialist Nick Allen to the Houston Astros in exchange for utility man Mauricio Dubón, adding versatility to their bench.
On Friday, the Braves moved on from two recently acquired pitchers, non-tendering both Carson Ragsdale and former Toronto Blue Jays All-Star Alek Manoah. Ragsdale, claimed off waivers earlier in the offseason, has made only two major league appearances. Both came with the Baltimore Orioles in 2025, when he allowed eight earned runs across five innings, finishing with a 14.40 ERA.
Manoah’s non-tender drew more attention given his past accolades. After debuting with Toronto in 2021, Manoah finished eighth in American League Rookie of the Year voting. He followed that strong start with a breakout 2022 campaign, going 16-7 with a 2.24 ERA and 180 strikeouts over 31 starts. That performance earned him All-Star honors and a third-place finish in Cy Young Award voting.
However, Manoah has struggled since that peak season. He has made just 24 appearances since 2022—all with Toronto—and has not pitched in the majors since 2024. Atlanta had hoped he might compete for a spot on its Opening Day roster, but his non-tender now sends him into free agency.
For the Braves, the offseason remains in its early stages. Many analysts expect Atlanta to be active in the coming weeks, particularly as the club searches for a long-term answer at shortstop and looks to strengthen its pitching depth.
