The Arizona Diamondbacks didn't gain a game in the NL Wild Card standings on Tuesday night.
But more importantly, they didn't lose one, either.
That's because Jordan Lawlar delivered a walk-off infield hit to complete a rally in a 6-5 win over the also-contending San Francisco Giants.
The victory means the Diamondbacks are still 1.5 games behind the New York Mets for the final playoff spot with 10 games to play.
Maybe just as importantly, the Diamondbacks are now 1.5 games ahead of both the Giants and the Cincinnati Reds, the two teams who could also conceivably catch up.
From selling at the trade deadline until now, it's been quite the turnaround.
"It's getting real," Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told MLB.com. "That's all I say, it's getting real. But we've got to keep grinding, we've got to keep doing the things we need to do."
The Giants scored four first-inning runs, which made it look like it could be a long night.
But the Diamondbacks, at this point in the season, aren't going to give in. They've scratched and clawed their way back into the race. They were going to scratch and claw back into this game, too.
That's what they did, and they've still got a chance.
