Former MLB GM reveals what it would take for Diamondbacks to entertain a Ketel Marte trade image

The Arizona Diamondbacks have been a team to watch this offseason, especially with Ketel Marte's name popping up in trade talks at times this winter.

While the team has come forward and announced they have no plans to trade Marte this offseason, fans shouldn't completely rule out a deal.

Former MLB GM Jim Bowden of The Athletic revealed what it might take to reopen the Marte trade talks back up this offseason. The Diamondbacks don't plan to move him, but a deal might materialize if this one thing happens.

What could cause Diamondbacks to entertain offers for Ketel Marte again

"Keep in mind," Bowden writes, "that stance could change with a robust trade offer, something that could come about if there is a major injury to a player in spring training and a team decides to revisit trade talks and offer closer to what Arizona was looking for in the beginning."

The Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, and Detroit Tigers all could reignite trade talks with the Diamondbacks over Marte.

Bowden believes that a Spring Training injury could force open talks again, which, for the Diamondbacks, could bring about the massive haul they were seeking earlier this offseason.

Talks died down after the offers weren't to their asking price, but if a team gets desperate, they might be able to force open talks once more.

The Diamondbacks plan to keep Marte this season, but if they get an offer akin to the demands they had earlier this year, Bowden believes a trade could materialize.

Sending a top player like Marte away will cost a ton, but if a team loses a player to an injury in Spring Training or is desperate for some other reason, then trade talks around Marte might open back up.

Diamondbacks fans shouldn't close the door on a Marte trade just yet. Bowden believes there's still a chance he's dealt. While it might not be likely, the chance isn't zero.
