Jalen Beeks had a unique experience on the mound on Thursday night.

The Arizona Diamondbacks' left-handed relief pitcher was in the middle of his delivery against the Rockies and then... a fly flew into his mouth.

Beeks managed to swallow the fly while throwing home, missing high and wide with his pitch.

“Yeah, l swallowed a fly when I lifted my leg,” Beeks told MLB.com after the game. “Never had that happen, but, you know, we got through it. We got the win. That’s the important thing.”

All was well that ended well. The Diamondbacks went on to win 8-2.

That at bat wasn't perfect, though. It ended in a home run for Brenton Doyle.

After the fly-infested pitch, Beeks looked in pain, and Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo worried he was hurt.

“You just hold your breath,” Lovullo said. “You’re wondering, like, ‘Is it an oblique? Is it the back?’ … By the time I got out there, he said that on his turn, he was going and the fly was present.”

Beeks had taken care of the fly by the time Lovullo made it to the mound to check on him, though.

“I gagged a little bit,” Beeks said. “It just took me a second, but I was fine. No big deal. Good story for later, though.”

Ironically, the story didn't end there.

MLB.com reporter Manny Randhawa shared that Beeks started coughing during his postgame interview and apologized, saying, "Maybe the fly's still in there."

You've gotta love baseball. You never know what's gonna happen.
