Corbin Carroll got a nice payday just in time for the holiday season.
Major League Baseball has instituted a new salary bonus rule in recent years. It's designed to hand out a bit of extra money to the best players who have yet to reach arbitration.
Carroll, the star for the Arizona Diamondbacks, fit the bill this year.
The Associated Press described it like this: "A total of 101 players will receive the payments under a plan aimed to get more money to players without sufficient service time for salary arbitration eligibility going into the season, which was two years, 132 days. Players signed as foreign professionals are not eligible."

Carroll's bonus this year: $1,341,674.
It's the highest earned by a position player, and fifth-highest overall, behind Paul Skenes, Christopher Sanchez, Hunter Brown and Bryan Woo.
The total is calculated by an MLB formula that uses postseason awards and Wins Above Replacement.
Carroll is a bit unlucky to not qualify for arbitration yet. If he had played just a little more in his debut 2022 season, he'd be eligible.
Instead, he's a year away, so he has to settle for this bonus.
Carroll hit.259 in 2025 with 32 doubles, 17 triples and 31 home runs. He had an.883 OPS and also stole 32 bases.
The lefty swinger has led the National League in triples in each of the past three seasons.
He'll get a big contract down the road. But MLB's salary rules limit his earning potential right now.
