U.S. Open weather updates: Latest news as rain brings out delay during Round 4 at Oakmont image

The 2025 U.S. Open is being held at Oakmont Country Club near Pittsburgh. It is a beautiful course and is one of the most challenging that the competitors will play all year.

The Oakmont Country Club has hosted the U.S. Open before and is set to host the event every seven years for the foreseeable future. The potential issue with trusting a location as close to Pittsburgh as Oakmont is situated, there is a high chance of rain or storms. Pittsburgh averages 154 days of rain per year, which ranks as the eighth-most in the country.

The first round of the 2025 U.S. Open went off without a hitch. The second, third and fourth rounds of action weren't so lucky. Here's what you need to know.

Weather updates for Round 4 of the 2025 U.S. Open

All times ET.

6:15 p.m.: The rain has returned, albeit not nearly as intensely as it had been before. The golfers will keep their place atop the watery surface, at least for the time being.

5:40 p.m.: And mercifully, we're back to action from Oakmont.

4:55 p.m.: The squeegees are out and about as the grounds crew attempts to soak up the saturation that has built up on the surface. According to NBC's broadcast, the weather has improved enough for players to return to the grass to practice. The hope among tournament organizers is that action resumes at 5:40 p.m. ET. That would give golfers about three hours to finish the round before the sun goes down.

4:45 p.m.: The rain continues to stream down at Oakmont. The deluge doesn't appear to be letting up. We could be on the sideline for a good while.

In that case, here are a few Tiger Woods highlights to satiate your desire for top-tier golf.

4:00 p.m.: There it is! The caution comes out and golfers will head to the clubhouse as water pools onto the track. Get ready to bunker down for another untimely weather delay.

3:50 p.m.: It seems a matter of when, not if, a weather delay will take place. After all, this isn't the most promising sight; a flash flood warning is in effect until 6:30 p.m. ET across much of the Pittsburgh area, including Plum, Oakmont's hometown.

3:35 p.m.: Storm clouds continue to loom over Oakmont as the fourth round gets underway. The first four holes went off without a hitch. But based on the way the sky looks, that won't be the case for long. Pittsburgh's WTAE claims there is a 63 percent chance that rain will descend upon the hollowed ground. It would keep in line with the weather that's taken place throughout the weekend.

Weather updates for Round 3 of the 2025 U.S. Open

8:45 a.m. -- Round 2 was able to wrap up action early Saturday morning, and Round 3 kicks off at 9:12 a.m. However, weather is once again set to play a factor on Saturday, and there could be more delays at Oakmont.

Weather updates for Round 2 of the 2025 U.S. Open.
