Ryder Cup team projections 2025: Updated standings, points for USA, Europe following FedEx St. Jude Championship

The PGA Tour season is winding down, as the FedEx Cup playoffs are underway.

While golfers will be looking to secure their spots in the Tour Championship, they also have another motivating factor at play: the Ryder Cup. This year's Ryder Cup standings will be final following the BMW Championship's final round on August 17, giving golfers two more tournaments to make moves.

As always, the top six golfers for each team in the Ryder Cup standings will automatically qualify for the event, while each captain will then pick six golfers to round out their teams. This year, the Ryder Cup will take place on United States soil at Bethpage Black in New York, which last hosted the PGA Championship in 2019.

Here's a look at the Ryder Cup standings less than a week away from the deadline.

With less than a week until Ryder Cup rosters are due, there is still much to be decided for Team USA.

Of course, Scottie Scheffler has already qualified, as the United States will have the four-time major champion to lead the way. Xander Schauffele and J.J. Spaun joined him with their performances at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, as Spaun specifically makes his first Ryder Cup this year.

Bryson DeChambeau is the next big name currently among the automatic qualifiers, but he is done earning points due to his status on LIV Golf. Additionally, Russell Henley and Harris English may not be huge names, but they are consistent performers who are also projected to automatically qualify.

Among the players who aren't in the top six, Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa are pretty safe bets to make the team despite less-than-stellar major performances this year. Additionally, there's a chance that one of the two replaces DeChambeau in the top six before the standings are final.

However, the final four spots are a question.

The biggest story is whether captain Keegan Bradley will choose himself on the team. Bradley has had a strong year and would likely be a safe bet to make the team if he weren't the captain, but he may not want to handle captain responsibilities while also playing.

Ben Griffin, Maverick McNealy, and Andrew Novak all had breakout years this season to get into the top 13, but their Ryder Cup inexperience is a hurdle they have to climb. Recently, Cameron Young won his first PGA Tour tournament at the Wyndham Championship, and the New York native has history at Bethpage Black that could prove valuable. Chris Gotterup is another player who had a strong July and could be peaking at the right time, but he faded over the weekend to hurt his chances.

Outside of the top 10 in the standings also includes many players who have played in the Ryder Cup before, but have had inconsistent 2025 campaigns.

Bradley will then have to decide if players like Patrick Cantlay, Sam Burns, Wyndham Clark, and Jordan Spieth are worth making the team despite their struggles at times this year. In the end, the FedEx Cup playoffs may prove valuable for these players to show that they should be on the team

Unlike Team USA, Team Europe's Ryder Cup projections appear clearer.

Rory McIlroy qualified for the event well in advance thanks to his extremely successful season, as he will lead the way for the Europeans. Justin Rose, who won the FedEx St. Jude Championship on Sunday, and Tommy Fleetwood also automatically qualified for the tournament. Robert McIntyre and Sepp Straka have also had strong PGA Tour seasons and are set to automatically qualify as well.

Hatton's LIV status means he is no longer able to earn more points, but his major-season success puts him in automatic-qualifier territory. Shane Lowry, meanwhile, dropped out of the top six when Rose jumped in, but the Ryder Cup veteran should be safe anyway.

After the top seven, Ludvig Aberg and Viktor Hovland are two experienced veterans who, despite inconsistent seasons, are still strong entrants in the Ryder Cup.

That leaves three spots remaining, but Rasmus Hojgaard is in line for his first Ryder Cup while currently ranked No. 8. Additionally, Matt Fitzpatrick's strong Open Championship play puts him back into the top 12 and in play for a spot, while it would be a surprise if Jon Rahm isn't on the team despite being ranked No. 22.

Matt Wallace, Thomas Detry, and Nicolai Hojgaard are the names who could play spoiler, with Hojgaard the only one of the three with Ryder Cup experience.
