PGA Championship 2025 purse, payout breakdown: How much prize money does the winner make? image

Golf major season continues this week as the PGA Championship commences at the Quail Hollow Club. After a thrilling Masters ended in Rory McIlroy taking home the green jacket, the sport is hoping momentum continues with another competitive major.

While the PGA Championship isn't the most prestigious major, it does offer the largest prize in the Wanamaker Trophy. That, however, is just a physical representation for the winning golfer to say he is a major winner.

Last year, Xander Schauffle won his first career major in a high-scoring tournament at Valhalla, which was his first of two major victories in 2024 alone. For his win, Schauffle secured $3.3 million in winnings along with the Wanamaker Trophy.

2025 PGA Tour's biggest purses, winner's shares

In 2022, the PGA Tour upgraded the pay structures amid the LIV Golf saga, elevating specific events that would have higher purses. Therefore, those events pay out their winners at a similar number to the four majors, with some even surpassing the majors.

The PGA Championship used to be one of the highest-paying tournaments in golf, and while that is still the case, other tournaments have increased their purse totals to match those of the four majors. Still, the PGA Championship is a major that every golfer would love to win and will feature both PGA Tour players and LIV Golf players.

Here's a look at how the four golf major purses compare to the highest purses on the PGA Tour.
