The USGA had the chance to make history on Sunday.
That's exactly what they did when they set up the par-3 No. 8 hole at Oakmont for the final round of the U.S. Open.
It's officially the longest par-3 in U.S. Open history.
How long is Oakmont No. 8 par-3 at U.S. Open?
In Sunday's final round, the 8th hole at Oakmont is set up as a 301-yard par-3.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, it's the longest par-3 in U.S. Open history.
The standard scorecard distance for the hole is 289, but the USGA played it down in the 250s on Saturday.
No such luck for golfers on Sunday, who will have to deal with some tricky bunker placements around a green and tee that are further from them than any golfers have ever had to deal with on a par-3 at a U.S. Open.
