As the mad dash toward the 2025 NFL season kicks into high gear, the fantasy football drafts have started to really ramp up. At the same time, mock drafts have been filling on Yahoo, ESPN, and Sleeper each day, with countless fantasy managers trying to hone their snake-draft skills ahead of their league's big day.
Yours truly decided to jump into a public 12-team PPR mock draft, just to get a feel for how things have been shaking out. I decided to not even let any of my fantasy analyst colleagues or podcast friends — I wanted it to be like I just joined a regular, everyday league and drafted the best team I could assemble.
The results were interesting, for my squad as well as a few of the other mock managers' teams. Like any real draft, I experienced some regrets as well as some moments of pure elation.
The basic strategy was to form a solid veteran nucleus and then support that foundation with a slew of young, high-upside sleepers.
DOMINATE YOUR DRAFT: 2025 Fantasy Football Cheat Sheet
We drafted out of the sixth spot, so naturally, there were some difficult choices. We would much rather draft in the top four or the bottom two, but that's sometimes how the cookie crumbles. The name of the game is to adapt well on the fly and pinpoint value each round, regardless of your draft position.
One minor but worthwhile note: we followed Yahoo's standard 12-team PPR format, with the following positions: 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 WR/RB/TE, 1 D/ST, 1 K (9 starters) and 6 bench spots (BE).
Yahoo's default should be three WR and seven bench by now (this format leaves a lot of talent on the waiver wire), but you can read about our favorite rule changes and rule tweaks here.
Enough rambling. Let's get to our mock! Here's how our 2025 12-team PPR mock draft went, with a round-by-round breakdown of our hits and misses as well as the interesting (and head-scratching) decisions of our fellow drafters.

Chalk at the top ... until No. 5
Most snake redrafts will include the same top four in some order. Not many top fives will include Derrick Henry. However, who can blame this manager for trusting an ageless wonder? The Ravens arguably got better during the offseason, and King Henry is no less of a beast.
Upside at No. 6
We had an inkling we would end up with CMC, and here we are. Hey, if he can play a full season, this likely winds up being one of the top values of the early portion of the draft. Pound for pound and play for play, McCaffrey remains one of the most dominating presences in all of football. And with Deebo Samuel gone, Brandon Aiyuk on the PUP list and every other RB in Santa Clara so banged up the Niners needed to acquire Brian Robinson, we like our chances here.
Round 2
- U Down with BTJ? Ya U Know Me: Malik Nabers (NYG - WR)
- Nicos and Hos: Drake London (Atl - WR)
- Back That Ash Up: Chase Brown (Cin - RB)
- Amon Top of the World: De'Von Achane (Mia - RB)
- CeeDee's Nuts: Bucky Irving (TB - RB)
- Jefferson Starship: Josh Jacobs (GB - RB)
- Run-DMC: Puka Nacua (LAR - WR)
- King Henry's Reign of Terror: Jonathan Taylor (Ind - RB)
- Quadzilla Lives: Brock Bowers (LV - TE)
- The man in Jahmyr: Trey McBride (Ari - TE)
- Here's to you, Bijan Robinson: A.J. Brown (Phi - WR)
- PAPER CHASE: Kyren Williams (LAR - RB)
Wideout stacks
We see Nabers and London — two super-solid picks — start Round 2 for a couple of amazing wide receiver stacks. In a PPR league, starting off with Nico/London or BTJ/Nabers sounds pretty, pretty, pretty good.
Achane starts the RB train
I can't imagine why "Amon Top of the World" would want De'Von Achane over Bucky Irving, Josh Jacobs, or even Jonathan Taylor.
Miami has looked like a bit of a mess over the past year, Achane has been dealing with a calf issue (and calves often become Achilles), and those three other RBs have way more upside. Heck, I'd want one of the super-power tight ends over Achane.
Puka Nacua Supa Dupa fly
This was a no-brainer pick, although we have to admit that we were hoping one of the three elite tight ends would fall to us in Round 3. Nacua has the talent and opportunity to be the WR1 if he and Matthew Stafford can stay healthy this season.
He averaged over 90 receiving yards per game last year, while catching nearly 75 percent of his targets. Now he has Davante Adams lining up on the opposite side of the field, which should open things up for the superstar Samoan even more.

Round 3
- PAPER CHASE: Omarion Hampton (LAC - RB)
- Here's to you, Bijan Robinson: George Kittle (SF - TE)
- The man in Jahmyr: Josh Allen (Buf - QB)
- Quadzilla Lives: Lamar Jackson (Bal - QB)
- King Henry's Reign of Terror: Ladd McConkey (LAC - WR)
- Run-DMC: Tee Higgins (Cin - WR)
- Jefferson Starship: James Cook (Buf - RB)
- CeeDee's Nuts: Marvin Harrison Jr. (Ari - WR)
- Amon Top of the World: Jaxon Smith-Njigba (Sea - WR)
- Back That Ash Up: Davante Adams (LAR - WR)
- Nicos and Hos: Kenneth Walker III (Sea - RB)
- U Down with BTJ? Ya U Know Me: Jalen Hurts (Phi - QB)
Solid start to Round 3
It's hard to find fault in any of the first five picks of this round. Hampton could wind up the Offensive Rookie of the Year this season — I like him in the third better than I like Ashton Jeanty in the first. Kittle will be relied upon heavily once again in Santa Clara.
Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson speak for themselves. By the time Ladd McConkey went off the board at pick No. 29, I was stuck with a major case of FOMO.
Old reliable Tee Higgins
After wishing one of the five players before me had fallen, I moved on with my life and selected Tee Higgins. He's like Bam Adebayo in basketball or Freddie Freeman in baseball — very reliable and uncontroversial.
The Bengals' D didn't get much better, so Joe Burrow and company will be quite busy from the word "go" this season.
James Cook and Kenneth Walker have more upside here, but I'm fine with Higgins' high floor. It's worlds better than Davante Adams at No. 34 (!?).
Round 4

- U Down with BTJ? Ya U Know Me: TreVeyon Henderson (NE - RB)
- Nicos and Hos: Alvin Kamara (NO - RB)
- Back That Ash Up: RJ Harvey (Den - RB)
- Amon Top of the World: James Conner (Ari - RB)
- CeeDee's Nuts: Chuba Hubbard (Car - RB)
- Jefferson Starship: Tyreek Hill (Mia - WR)
- Run-DMC: Terry McLaurin (Was - WR)
- King Henry's Reign of Terror: Jayden Daniels (Was - QB)
- Quadzilla Lives: Mike Evans (TB - WR)
- The man in Jahmyr: DK Metcalf (Pit - WR)
- Here's to you, Bijan Robinson: Breece Hall (NYJ - RB)
- PAPER CHASE: Garrett Wilson (NYJ - WR)
Some picks that we love
TreVeyon Henderson is an absolute beast, and literally everything we have been hearing from Patriots camp has been positive. It feels crazy that he's going this early, until you see how explosive he is, how well he can block and how positive his coaching staff has been about him.
On a less exciting level, Chuba Hubbard was so dang nasty for Carolina last year and the Panthers will be better in 2025. James Conner has become a consistent workhorse, too.
And how can anyone blame me or the manager of King Henry's Reign for taking Terry McLaurin and Jayden Daniels.
They have a fantastic connection, and TMC got the bag (plus, now I have CMC, TMC and Tee — time to give Puka a nickname like Pineapple P).
Some picks that we don't love
Alvin Kamara had a good 2024, all things considered, but with his injury and character history and the Saints looking absolutely awful this year it seems like a risk to take him at the top of Round 4.
RJ Harvey might not have the RB1 role locked up in Denver — that might be J.K. Dobbins' job to lose — so RJ inside the top 40 is wild. Tyreek Hill, Breece Hall, and Garrett Wilson all have immense talent, but they all carry significant risk and, in our humble opinion, play on below-average teams.

Round 5
- PAPER CHASE: Courtland Sutton (Den - WR)
- Here's to you, Bijan Robinson: Jaylen Waddle (Mia - WR)
- The man in Jahmyr: Tony Pollard (Ten - RB)
- Quadzilla Lives: Isiah Pacheco (KC - RB)
- King Henry's Reign of Terror: DeVonta Smith (Phi - WR)
- Run-DMC: T.J. Hockenson (Min - TE)
- Jefferson Starship: David Montgomery (Det - RB)
- CeeDee's Nuts: Calvin Ridley (Ten - WR)
- Amon Top of the World: George Pickens (Dal - WR)
- Back That Ash Up: Xavier Worthy (KC - WR)
- Nicos and Hos: Jameson Williams (Det - WR)
- U Down with BTJ? Ya U Know Me: D'Andre Swift (Chi - RB)
Know your format
Some will say that taking T.J. Hockenson in the fifth was a reach, but remember that this particular (mock) league features just two starting wide receiver positions and one QB. Plenty of quarterback value remains, but Hock is the last stud tight end available.
While part of us feels conflicted about passing on Pickens, Worthy, and Jame-O Williams, we feel strongly that Hockenson's value above the other available TEs was too high to ignore. Remember that Jordan Addison has a suspension looming — T.J. will be busy.
Round 6
- U Down with BTJ? Ya U Know Me: Ricky Pearsall (SF - WR)
- Nicos and Hos: Tyrone Tracy Jr. (NYG - RB)
- Back That Ash Up: Joe Burrow (Cin - QB)
- Amon Top of the World: Tetairoa McMillan (Car - WR)
- CeeDee's Nuts: Aaron Jones Sr. (Min - RB)
- Jefferson Starship: Travis Hunter (Jax - WR)
- Run-DMC: Kaleb Johnson (Pit - RB)
- King Henry's Reign of Terror: Rome Odunze (Chi - WR)
- Quadzilla Lives: Travis Kelce (KC - TE)
- The man in Jahmyr: DJ Moore (Chi - WR)
- Here's to you, Bijan Robinson: Patrick Mahomes (KC - QB)
- PAPER CHASE: Jordan Mason (Min - RB)
Sleepers and rookies and veterans, oh my!
This round had a little bit of everything: popular sleeper and breakout picks like Pearsall, Odunze, and Mason; rookies like McMillian, Hunter, and Johnson; and vets like Burrow, Jones Sr., Kelce, Mahomes, and Moore.
What fun! If we had a do-over, we might have picked DJ Moore here, but we like Kaleb Johnson's chances of taking over the Pittsburgh backfield now that Najee Harris has finally departed.
We couldn't be less enthused by the concept of drafting Kelce or Mahomes in Round 6 — both were underwhelming in the 2024 regular season.

Round 7

- PAPER CHASE: Mark Andrews (Bal - TE)
- Here's to you, Bijan Robinson: Zay Flowers (Bal - WR)
- The man in Jahmyr: Emeka Egbuka (TB - WR)
- Quadzilla Lives: Rashee Rice (KC - WR)
- King Henry's Reign of Terror: Sam LaPorta (Det - TE)
- Run-DMC: Jacory Croskey-Merritt (Was - RB)
- Jefferson Starship: Bo Nix (Den - QB)
- CeeDee's Nuts: Tucker Kraft (GB - TE)
- Amon Top of the World: Chris Olave (NO - WR)
- Back That Ash Up: Jakobi Meyers (LV - WR)
- Nicos and Hos: Stefon Diggs (NE - WR)
- U Down with BTJ? Ya U Know Me: Zach Charbonnet (Sea - RB)
Papa needs a new pair of Bill Croskeys
Quite a bit of sleeper hunting going on here! Egbuka could easily just take over Chris Godwin's usage if Godwin can't get healthy in Tampa.
Rice, even with the suspension, could yield league-winning value. Charbonnet in a Klint Kubiak offense would also be a massive boom if (or rather, when) Kenneth Walker III gets hurt.
And, last but certainly not least, Jacory "Bill Croskey"-Merritt might be a jackpot selection in Round 7 if he wins the RB1 role in the nation's capital. If he doesn't win the job, it will stink — but fortune favors the bold, and we can make up for it elsewhere if it doesn't work out.
Round 8
- U Down with BTJ? Ya U Know Me: Ravi - David Njoku (Cle - TE)
- Nicos and Hos: Travis Etienne Jr. (Jax - RB)
- Back That Ash Up: Evan Engram (Den - TE)
- Amon Top of the World: Brock Purdy (SF - QB)
- CeeDee's Nuts: Dak Prescott (Dal - QB)
- Jefferson Starship: Tyler Warren (Ind - TE)
- Run-DMC: Jaylen Warren (Pit - RB)
- King Henry's Reign of Terror: Braelon Allen (NYJ - RB)
- Quadzilla Lives: Tank Bigsby (Jax - RB)
- The man in Jahmyr: Jauan Jennings (SF - WR)
- Here's to you, Bijan Robinson: Jerry Jeudy (Cle - WR)
- PAPER CHASE: Baker Mayfield (TB - QB)
Tight end values
The guys who waited at tight end made some pretty nice selections near the top of the eighth. Njoku should remain one of the more sturdy targets now that he got old pal Joe Flacco back under center, and Engram in a Sean Payton system and coming off a career year feels like a high-upside pick.
Tyler Warren might be the best pick of the three, though — he has looked so darn good in Indy, and it's easy to see why so many fantasy analysts love him.
Decisions, decisions...
Jaylen Warren felt like a worthwhile pick to make since we already drafted Kaleb Johnson. Now we have an RB monopoly in what should be a run-first Steelers offense.
It's good to have insurance, but it felt bad to miss out on Braelon Allen and Tank Bigsby — and even worse to see Baker Mayfield's name get called. Yipes — we need a QB.
WARNING: Avoid these fantasy draft busts
Round 9
- PAPER CHASE: Matthew Golden (GB - WR)
- Here's to you, Bijan Robinson: J.K. Dobbins (Den - RB)
- The man in Jahmyr: Jordan Addison (Min - WR)
- Quadzilla Lives: Kyler Murray (Ari - QB)
- King Henry's Reign of Terror: Deebo Samuel (Was - WR)
- Run-DMC: Justin Herbert (LAC - QB)
- Jefferson Starship: Joe Mixon (Hou - RB)
- CeeDee's Nuts: Drake Maye (NE - QB)
- Amon Top of the World: Jake Ferguson (Dal - TE)
- Back That Ash Up: Cooper Kupp (Sea - WR)
- Nicos and Hos: Caleb Williams (Chi - QB)
- U Down with BTJ? Ya U Know Me: Rashid Shaheed (NO - WR)
The Herb, Herb, Herb, the Herb's the word
All's well that ends well. We landed Justin Herbert at pick No. 102, tremendous value especially when you consider that lesser QBs like Maye and Williams went soon after.
This turned out to be a pretty uninspiring round, so we're so happy that we opted for the strategy of waiting on QB.

Round 10

- U Down with BTJ? Ya U Know Me: Justin Fields (NYJ - QB)
- Nicos and Hos: Colston Loveland (Chi - TE)
- Back That Ash Up: Javonte Williams (Dal - RB)
- Amon Top of the World: Rhamondre Stevenson (NE - RB)
- CeeDee's Nuts: Jayden Reed (GB - WR)
- Jefferson Starship: Brandon Aiyuk (SF - WR)
- Run-DMC: Bhayshul Tuten (Jax - RB)
- King Henry's Reign of Terror: Jordan Love (GB - QB)
- Quadzilla Lives: Khalil Shakir (Buf - WR)
- The man in Jahmyr: Cam Skattebo (NYG - RB)
- Here's to you, Bijan Robinson: Jared Goff (Det - QB)
- PAPER CHASE: Josh Downs (Ind - WR)
Tuten our horns
Bhayshul Tuten lands with our squad at pick No. 115, and we couldn't be happier. This kid could easily be the starting running back in Jacksonville by Week 6, and anyone who checked out his preseason highlights knows what kind of threat he would be in that role.
Liam Coen oversaw Bucky Irving's rookie breakout last season, and now he has a chance to do it again with Mr. Tuten.

Round 11
- PAPER CHASE: Rachaad White (TB - RB)
- Here's to you, Bijan Robinson: Dallas Goedert (Phi - TE)
- The man in Jahmyr: Jaydon Blue (Dal - RB)
- Quadzilla Lives: Michael Pittman Jr. (Ind - WR)
- King Henry's Reign of Terror: Dalton Kincaid (Buf - TE)
- Run-DMC: Keon Coleman (Buf - WR)
- Jefferson Starship: Austin Ekeler (Was - RB)
- CeeDee's Nuts: Dylan Sampson (Cle - RB)
- Amon Top of the World: J.J. McCarthy (Min - QB)
- Back That Ash Up: C.J. Stroud (Hou - QB)
- Nicos and Hos: Keenan Allen (LAC - WR)
- U Down with BTJ? Ya U Know Me: Jerome Ford (Cle - RB)
No time for low-floor boredom
"Here's to you" picked Dallas Goedert in the 11th despite already having George Kittle. "CeeDee's Nuts" grabbed Dylan Sampson, for whatever Earthly reason.
Then "U Down with BTJ" picked Jerome Ford to cap off a bananas round. We're happy with our Keon Coleman pick — he's too darn talented to stay quiet for much longer. McCarthy and Stround — the J.J. to C.J. B2Bs — were massive values toward the tail end of the 11th.
Round 12
- U Down with BTJ? Ya U Know Me: Hunter Henry (NE - TE)
- Nicos and Hos: Ray Davis (Buf - RB)
- Back That Ash Up: Zach Ertz (Was - TE)
- Amon Top of the World: Jonnu Smith (Pit - TE)
- CeeDee's Nuts: Chig Okonkwo (Ten - TE)
- Jefferson Starship: Chris Godwin Jr. (TB - WR)
- Run-DMC: Denver (Den - DEF)
- King Henry's Reign of Terror: Tyjae Spears (Ten - RB)
- Quadzilla Lives: Brian Robinson Jr. (SF - RB)
- The man in Jahmyr: Rashod Bateman (Bal - WR)
- Here's to you, Bijan Robinson: Trey Benson (Ari - RB)
- PAPER CHASE: Trevor Lawrence (Jax - QB)
A rare reach for D/ST
Benson and Davis are strong backups who could reward their drafters handsomely should anything happen to the James boys ahead of them (Cook and Conner).
I bucked my usual strategy of "wait until the penultimate round to draft a defense" since I feel comfortable with my team and Denver's D is just so darn dominating. There's only 15 rounds in this mock, anyway.
Plus, look at the Broncos' schedule highlights: vs. TEN (9/7), @ IND (9/14), @ LAC (9/21), @ NYJ (10/12), vs. NYG (10/19), vs. DAL (10/26), vs. LV twice (11/6, 12/7), vs. JAX (12/21), vs. LAC (1/4). Lots of double-digit scoring weeks in there.

Round 13

- PAPER CHASE: Kyle Pitts Sr. (Atl - TE)
- Here's to you, Bijan Robinson: Darnell Mooney (Atl - WR)
- The man in Jahmyr: Quinshon Judkins (Cle - RB)
- Quadzilla Lives: Christian Kirk (Hou - WR)
- King Henry's Reign of Terror: Bryce Young (Car - QB)

- CeeDee's Nuts: Geno Smith (LV - QB)
- Amon Top of the World: Jayden Higgins (Hou - WR)
- Back That Ash Up: Philadelphia (Phi - DEF)
- Nicos and Hos: Matthew Stafford (LAR - QB)
- U Down with BTJ? Ya U Know Me: Tyler Allgeier (Atl - RB)
More handcuffs, a couple dart throws and some backup QBs
This round saw PAPER CHASE try to tap water from the Kyle Pitts well that has been damaged since the TE's rookie year. It saw fellow ATL pass-catcher Darnell Mooney, who has been battling injury, go off the board as well. I'd rather have their QB, Michael Penix Jr., who has serious breakout potential.
I'm not taking a second QB in a one-QB league, though — give me Isaac Guerendo as CMC's true handcuff, because Brian Robinson just isn't that good and he's certainly not the San Fran workhorse if and when CMC gets hurt (IMHO).

- Quadzilla Lives: Los Angeles (LAC - DEF)
- The man in Jahmyr: Arizona (Ari - DEF)
- Here's to you, Bijan Robinson: Houston (Hou - DEF)
- PAPER CHASE: Cameron Dicker (LAC - K)
The D/ST waterfall
We knew this was going to happen. Here comes the defenses! We feel validated now that we have a stud unit in Denver, and we were able to land Chargers rookie Tre' Harris as a late-draft sleeper wideout.
Round 15
- PAPER CHASE: New York (NYJ - DEF)
- Here's to you, Bijan Robinson: Jake Bates (Det - K)
- The man in Jahmyr: Will Reichard (Min - K)
- Quadzilla Lives: Ka'imi Fairbairn (Hou - K)

- Nicos and Hos: Jason Sanders (Mia - K)
- U Down with BTJ? Ya U Know Me: Harrison Butker (KC - K)
The footies
First of all, get rid of the damn kicker position in fantasy football. It's the most unpredictable element of fantasy, and it's flat-out silly to have it deciding close games amongst skilled fantasy managers.
That being said, if we're using a format that includes kickers, we'll draft a kicker.
Lutz has a big boot, high-altitude games in Denver, and a steady offense run by Sean Payton and a continually evolving QB in Bo Nix. In an actual draft, though, we might forego a kicker, draft one last sleeper at a skill position, and drop someone later to slot in at K on the first Sunday of the season. Value, value, value!
Final round-by-round results for Run-CMC
1. Christian McCaffrey (SF - RB)
2. Puka Nacua (LAR - WR)
3. Tee Higgins (Cin - WR)
4. Terry McLaurin (Was - WR)
5. T.J. Hockenson (Min - TE)
6. Kaleb Johnson (Pit - RB)
7. Jacory Croskey-Merritt (Was - RB)
8. Jaylen Warren (Pit - RB)
9. Justin Herbert (LAC - QB)
10. Bhayshul Tuten (Jax - RB)
11. Keon Coleman (Buf - WR)
12. Denver (Den - DEF)
13. Isaac Guerendo (SF - RB)
14. Tre' Harris (LAC - WR)
15. Wil Lutz (Den - K)
We wound up with a good-looking squad, but we're obviously relying on some sleepers and breakouts to hit. With a stars-and-sleepers strategy, you ideally want your proven studs to have a bit more durability, but we like our chances of prevailing with a little injury luck on our side.
Our starters:
QB: Justin Herbert
RB1: Christian McCaffrey
RB2: Kaleb Johnson, Bhayshul Tuten or Jacory Croskey-Merritt
WR1: Puka Nacua
WR2: Tee Higgins
TE: T.J. Hockenson
FLEX: Terry McLaurin
D/ST: Denver Broncos
K: Will Lutz
Bench: Jaylen Warren, Keon Coleman, Isaac Guerendo, Tre' Harris
We already know what your gut reaction will be after seeing this lineup. 'You're low on RBs,' you're probably saying. Well, we'll be fine if (a) one of our rookies hits, (b) Johnson or Warren emerges in Pittsburgh, or (c) Isaac Guerendo gets the bump after a CMC injury.
We also know that leagues aren't won on draft day. The draft is the foundation of the house — it's a forever home once you put the finishing touches on it via trades, waiver-wire pickups, and free agency acquisitions.
