Fantasy Baseball Rankings: Tuesday's starting pitchers

Tuesday will feature a nice mix of starting pitchers taking the hill. There are the frontline pitchers who have started slow in 2019 (Chris Sale, James Paxton), surprise sleepers off to a fast first month (Matthew Boyd, Max Fried), and those with electric stuff and upside (Jack Flaherty, Tyler Glasnow). This early in the season, it's tough to know how to rank these SPs in fantasy baseball leagues -- especially DFS contests where you have to factor in prices -- but that doesn't stop us from doing our best to break down the best (and worst) options.

At this point in the year, it's important to factor in regression -- both positive and negative -- for pitchers and hitters. Someone like Stephen Strasburg, who has been very good year-after-year and faces the offensively challenged Giants, still gets the benefit of the doubt. The same goes for Chris Sale, who faces a Yankees lineup hitting just .196 against southpaws. They are among the better starters today, but we also like Tyler Glasnow, Matthew Boyd and Joe Musgrove, who have shown signs that they are starting to live up to their potentials. They will pitch against the Orioles, Pirates, and Tigers respectively, which are all favorable matchups.

Shane Bieber and Fried are off to strong starts this season, but both draw tough matchups on Tuesday that dim their prospects. Bieber will face a Mariners lineup that is second in wRC+ against righthanded pitchers, while Fried is scheduled to face the Diamondbacks, who rank eighth in OPS against lefties. Like we said, these are small samples, but it's tough to ignore those numbers, especially with some of the other options available.
