Darts has experienced explosive growth over the last decade and has become one of the fastest growing sports in the U.K. And globally.

The traditional perception of a "pub game" is no more — instead stadiums are selling out, TV viewership is reaching record highs and players such as Luke Littler are even being voted as the world's sexiest sportsman!

This surge in interest has been driven by new tournament formats and expansion into new markets, and this November that trend will continue apace — as the innovative SUPER DARTS tournament takes place in Japan.

The event, which sees some of the world's top players competing with soft-tip darts in a rotating format that combines traditional 501 with more unique games like "Cricket", will enter its 11th year from November 29.

In the past, SUPER DARTS has attracted legends and hopefuls alike, with Phil Taylor and Paul Lim among the list of icons to have competed

This year, the action once again promises to be spectacular. Here's why you should be watching...

The Players

SUPER DARTS has a legacy of featuring some of the game's best players from across the globe — and this year is no different.

Darts legends such as Phil Taylor, Paul Lim and Mark Webster have all taken to the soft-tip oche, achieving various levels of success, down the years (Lim won the event in 2015, while Taylor was beaten in the final in 2018).

For 2025, anticipation is high as the event welcomes a mix of debuting players and returning SUPER DARTS veterans.

Beau Greaves enters SUPER DARTS 2025 as the most decorated female darts player in history. Greaves already holds the record for PDC Women's Series titles and has racked up 79 career titles overall at just 21 years old.

Over the latest year, Greaves has taken home a prize fund of just over £71,000. Many anticipate she could add to her trophy haul — and bank balance — again in Tokyo.

Boris Krcmar, a powerhouse in European darts, will also be playing at this year's tournament. Krcmar has competed in five editions of SUPER DARTS, including being beaten by Lim in the final in 2015.

As well as brining in steel-tipped darts superstars, SUPER DARTS also welcomes some of the best soft-tip players on the Asian Tour. Elite competitors including Hugo Leung, 2024 champion Seigo Asada and Keita Ono will all be competing in 2025 as well.

The Format

SUPER DARTS elevates itself through combining matches with traditional 501 rules alongside alternative game formats.

The alternating structure of matches forces players to remain laser-focused, which often results in exciting darts and high-intensity checkouts.

01 Game

Replicating some of the rules of traditional 501, players must reduce their score to exactly zero within a set round limit. If no one reaches zero then the game is finished by players throwing a single dart, and whoever is closest to the bull wins.

Cricket Game

This game uses the numbers 15 to 20 and the bull. Each number must be hit three times in order to open it for scoring. Players are then able to score that amount of points by hitting each number again.

Once all numbers in the game have been used up, the player with the most points wins.

The Rewards

SUPER DARTS 2025 stands out for its lucrative prize pool. The huge prize money is part of the appeal for the elite professional players and helps elevate the event in global terms.

This isn't your average event, with the champion receiving a payout of ¥10,000,000 which is approximately $65,000 or just short of £50,000.
