American Idol begins Season 24 on Monday night.

The popular singing contest show will again be without Katy Perry, the pop star.

She was a judge for nearly a decade, but not anymore.

Why did Katy Perry leave American Idol?

Katy Perry left American Idol before Season 23 to focus on other ventures.

She had been a judge for seven seasons.

She told Jimmy Kimmel, "I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat."

That left judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie in place.

Perry was replaced on the panel by Carrie Underwood.

At the time of Perry's departure, she was working on new music.

That music eventually turned into her new album, 143.

“I love the show so much but I wanna go and see the world and maybe bring new music," Perry told Kimmel.

Fans miss her, still wondering why she is no longer on the show, but it appears for now that her time as a judge has become a part of Perry's past.
