The group stage of the UEFA Champions League is upon us, and for the first time since 2009 Real Madrid will not have the services of Cristiano Ronaldo.

It's a big blow to a team looking to extend its consecutive titles streak to four after having raised the previous three Champions League trophies. Ronaldo has led the competition in scoring for the past five seasons, and he'll aim to bring his European magic to Juventus this year as his new team looks to regain a crown it hasn't owned since 1996.

Despite the Ronaldo-focused storylines, the last team to win the Champions League aside from Real Madrid — Lionel Messi's Barcelona — will be the one kicking off this year's tournament. The Catalans will host PSV Eindhoven for an early kick-off on Matchday 1, officially marking the start of Europe's premier club competition.

All times are Eastern.
