Marion Local winning streak hits milestone mark as nation's longest football perfection continues into playoffs image

A week off certainly didn't seem to bother Marion Local.

The Flyers had a bye in Week 11 of Ohio's high school football playoffs in the first year of the 12-teams-per-region format. Back out there Friday night in Week 12, they made quick work of things.

The final score, with help of a second-half running clock, was 42-12.

The nation's longest winning streak has now reached 75 games and counting. The Division VII school from Maria Stein, Ohio just keeps the band marching on.

Marion Local scored the first 29 points against Lehman Catholic, which had advanced to this point with a wild, 50-48 win over Minster in the opening round of the postseason.

Lehman was never going to score 50 against the Flyers.

Marion Local, all throughout its historic stretch, has hung its hat on defense. It showed on Friday night.

The Flyers forced a fumble on the opening Lehman drive, and they turned it into a 14-yard touchdown for Andrew Schmackers.

Kamden Eifert scored the next touchdown from close range.

Then it was Cale Nagel from 47 yards out for a 22-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Eifert scored again for a 29-0 lead before a Gus Richard receiving TD got Lehman on the board.

Marion Local took a 35-6 lead to the half on a Ben Meier touchdown.

Eifert made it 42-6 out of halftime to start the running clock.

Marion Local advances to play Fort Recovery in a D-VII, Region 28 semifinal. On Oct. 3, the Flyers beat their MAC opponent, 41-7.

The Steiners will be favored to keep the streak alive until someone finally proves they can end it.
