Marion Local didn't score a single point on offense.
Normally, that would mean a win streak ends, even one as historic as the one that the Flyers have put together.
But not on this night in Maria Stein, Ohio.
Andrew Schmackers returned a third quarter kickoff for a touchdown, and that was the entire difference.
Coldwater made two field goals but couldn't get more.
Marion Local 7, Coldwater 6.
The Flyers have won 74 games in a row and put together another 10-0 regular season and another outright MAC championship.
They'll be the top seed in Division VII, Region 28, like usual.
It hasn't been as smooth as sometimes.
This is the Flyers' third one-point win of the season.
They needed every little bit of help to beat Versailles in Week 6, 20-19.
Then in Week 8, Marion Local needed double overtime to beat Anna, 28-27.
And now it's 7-6 over historic rivals Coldwater.
It's a great showing by the Cavaliers, really, who will be a team no one wants to play in the postseason. They're the defending Division VI state champions and have eight state titles in their history.
But again, even on an odd night, this one was all about Marion Local.
A 74-game win streak is unfathomable. But each year, the squad in Maria Stein retools and finds a way to win, Friday night after Friday night.
This one was close, just as a few others have been this season.
But until proven otherwise, the boys from the school with 15 state championships will be favored to win another one. The streak ain't over until it's over.
