Will Nick Kyrgios play in Australian Open? Star gives surprising update for 2026 event image

After his exit at Australian Open 2025, Nick Kyrgios declared "realistically I can’t see myself playing a singles match here again" following a series of chronic knee and wrist injuries.

But surprising recent news has suggested Kyrgios could play at Australian Open 2026 after a change has happened in his fitness.

The 30-year-old has also recently announced he will be taking on women's world no.1 Aryna Sabalenka in a 'Battle of the Sexes' match.

AllSportsPeople has all the latest details on whether Kyrgios will be playing at the Australian Open.

Will Nick Kyrgios play at Australian Open 2026?

Kyrgios hasn't committed to playing at the Australian Open but gave some positive news in November about his chronic injuries.

If the Wimbledon 2022 finalist can get his body into excellent shape, an Australian Open appearance could be on the cards.

“In the last month, I don’t know what it is. I was with my masseuse and physio last night and something really has changed with my knee,” Kyrgios told the Australian Associated Press.

“It’s not swelling. It’s not feeling bad after a session.

“I don’t know whether to call it a miracle or anything, but my knee feels like it’s gotten younger by a couple of years.”

Kyrgios, who has only played six professional matches since being struck down by injury in late 2022, is currently ranked 652 and would need a wildcard to get into the Australian Open main draw.

However, the Australian didn't want to get ahead of himself with a possible comeback, but was hopeful that his body can continue to stay fit.

“I don’t want to jinx it, but something in it has gone, kind of allowed me to put three, four days of training together on court for an hour-and-a-half, two hours and be able to actually recover and then build on that,” Kyrgios said.

“So that’s been really exciting and I haven’t really told anyone. I have a new lease on life on court.”
