Turkish player Zeynep Sonmez made history on the opening day of the Australian Open, but it was a different act that won over tennis fans across the world.
As Sonmez was on her way to upsetting world number 11 Ekaterina Alexandrova in the first round of the tournament, a ball kid fell over after an extended time in the Melbourne heat.
Sonmez was quick to help though, immediately rushing over and helping the young girl to the bench to receive medical attention.
A six-minute delay ensued, before Sonmez eventually saw out the match, defeating Alexandrova 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.

The win makes Sonmez the first woman ever from Turkey to reach the second round of the Australian Open.
Sonmez will either face either Hungarian Anna Bondar or American Elizabeth Mandlik in the second round.
