We all know that the Sydney to Hobart yacht race starts on Boxing Day, but when does it actually finish?

When does the Sydney to Hobart yacht race finish? End time

The Sydney to Hobart yacht race course is 628 nautical miles - which equates to 1,163km.

It usually takes approximately 48 hours for the line honours winner to complete the race.

The race record finish is 1 day, 9 hours, 15 minutes and 24 seconds by Comanche in 2017.

The entire race won't finish until early January as the smaller boats take longer to complete the course.

When is the Sydney-Hobart yacht race?

The Sydney to Hobart yacht race will start at 1:00pm (AEDT) on Boxing Day, December 26, 2025.

As per tradition, the race start will be signalled by the firing of a starting cannon. 

Where is the Sydney-Hobart yacht race held?

Competitors will set off near Nielsen Park in Sydney Harbour, before making their way towards Sydney Heads. 

The yachts will then follow the east coast of Australia en route to the infamous Bass Strait. 

The finish line of the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race is located off Castray Esplanade on the River Derwent, followed by spectators greeting them at Kings Pier in Hobart.

As per the same arrangement as 2024, the Sydney to Hobart yacht race will be broadcast live on free-to-air television via Channel 9.

Sydney-Hobart yacht race: 2025 fleet

The official Sydney to Hobart yacht race entry list had 142 yachts committed - which is the second-largest fleet this century.

Reigning champion LawConnect will be aiming for three straight line-honours titles, while other contenders include Master Lock Comanche, Palm beach XI and SHk Scallywag.
