All Blacks star Sonny Bill Williams seemed to go untreated for what appeared to be a concussion in the early stages of his team's Saturday night win in the first Bledisloe Cup Test against the Wallabies.

Williams attempted to make a tackle on Aussie skipper Michael Hooper and appeared to cop a knock to the head.

The 32-year-old was on very wobbly legs as he attempted to get up and back into the defensive line where he was able to pull off a big tackle later in the play.

Williams continued the match, playing the full 80 minutes and scoring a try in the All Blacks 54-34 victory.

The incident came on the same day that World Rugby announced changes to their concussion protocol.

The sport's governing body declared that, from August 26, players undergoing a Head Injury Assessment must stay off the field for at least 10 minutes.

World Rugby protocol states that a player with a suspected concussion must come from the field to be assessed, not to return if a concussion is found.
