After playing just one NRL match in his injury-affected stint with the Gold Coast Titans, Carter Gordon has well and truly landed back on his feet in rugby union.
On Monday the 24-year-old was granted an early release from the final year of his Titans contract to link with the Queensland Reds in super rugby until the end of 2028.
He was also immediately named in the 34-player Wallabies squad for the end of year tour to Japan and Europe.
The Gold Coast Titans confirmed Gordon’s early departure in a statement on Monday that will free up salary cap space and another roster spot for incoming head coach Josh Hannay.

“Carter Gordon has been granted an early release from the final year of his contract following a comprehensive financial settlement with Rugby Australia,” the Titans statement said.
“After thorough negotiations, the Titans have agreed to an immediate release that prioritises the club’s long-term roster management.”
According to Australian head coach Joe Schmidt, the Wallabies are keen to integrate Gordon back into the national team set-up as quickly as possible with an eye to the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia—a move they will no doubt look to replicate in 12 months’ time with Sydney Roosters star Mark Nawaqanitawase.
In a statement from Rugby Australia, Gordon expressed his excitement in returning to the 15-man game along with his thanks to Gold Coast Titans officials.
“I’m stoked to return to the game I grew up playing,” Gordon said.
“I’ve watched both Queensland and the Wallabies from afar over the past year or so, and the journey they’re on motivates me to want to work hard and contribute positively on and off the field.
“I’d also like to thank the Gold Coast Titans for the opportunity to grow as a player and person at their club and for all their support for me and my family over the past 16 months, I wish the players and the staff all the best for what’s ahead.”
A former Australian Schoolboys and Junior Wallabies representative, Gordon featured in eight tests for the Wallabies in his first stint in professional rugby, including two matches at the 2023 Rugby World Cup, and also made 45 super rugby appearances for the Melbourne Rebels.
The Wallabies will play five tests on their end of year tour beginning with Japan in Tokyo on Saturday October 25.
