The Perth Bears have confirmed two critical roster additions with the Storm duo of Tyran Wishart and Nick Meaney officially on board for the club’s debut NRL season in 2027.

In a statement the club said Wishart has signed a five-year deal while Meaney has committed to the Bears for three years.

“I’m really excited about the challenge of being a part of a new team and creating a legacy for the Perth Bears, as well as representing the past players and fans of the Bears and Reds franchises,” Wishart said.

“I see this is an opportunity to continue to evolve my game and be a part of something special for the NRL and sport in our country.”

“There is already so much buzz about the Perth Bears and I’m excited to have the opportunity to be a part of it,” Wishart continued.

The news comes just days after the Storm announced both stars would be leaving Melbourne at the end of 2026.

Perth Bears head coach Mal Meninga said the club was thrilled to have secured two of the NRL’s most sought-after 2027 free agents.

“Tyran and Nick are exceptional players that will bring a wealth of experience and leadership to our club,” Meninga said.

“I am absolutely thrilled to welcome them to the Perth Bears.”

Meanwhile, Leeds Rhinos have confirmed 25-year-old forward James McDonnell will be leaving the Super League for an NRL club in 2027, also believed to be the Bears.

Manchester-born McDonnell would become the second Leeds Rhino player to link with the Bears in 2027 following the earlier signing of English international Harry Newman.
