Brisbane premiership winning halfback and captain Adam Reynolds has given his thoughts on the bombshell signing of Storm playmaker Jonah Pezet in 2027.
In a massive potential plot twist for the Broncos, the 35-year-old also revealed on the Inside Ball podcast he may play on himself beyond the 2026 NRL season.
“It caught everyone off guard I think,” Reynolds admitted when he first heard the news of the secret two-club deal negotiated by Pezet’s manager Braith Anasta.
“But the club is doing what it needs to do to secure the future.”

Asked about the potential for the decision to create a log-jam of playmakers at the Broncos, Reynolds agreed before saying clubs have a responsibility to consider high quality players when they become available.
“We have some good young quality halves coming through like Coby Black, and we also just purchased a kid from North Queensland (Tom Duffy),” he said.
“But I think any time quality halves come on the market you need to have a serious look—they’re ultimately the difference (makers) at the end of the season.”
From a player’s perspective, Reynolds said he could understand Pezet’s decision to leave the Storm despite still having a lucrative contract option in his favour.
“He’s been in a great system at Melbourne, learned his trade under one of the best coaches we’ve seen in the NRL (Craig Bellamy), but obviously he’s had some handy players in front of him,” Reynolds said.
“When you have the quality of Hughes and Munster in front of you, it’s hard to get a game—for him he’s probably sick of waiting in the wings, he wants an opportunity and I have no doubt he’s going to feature heavily (in the Broncos’ future).”
‘A decision definitely hasn’t been made yet’
While Pezet appears a tailor-made replacement for Reynolds’ number seven jersey in 2027, the Broncos captain threw a slight spanner in the works when asked if he was guaranteed to retire at the end of the 2026 NRL season.
“No, there’s not (a guarantee), I feel like I still have some good footy left in me, obviously next year will tell whether I’d like to go on in the NRL or not, but a decision definitely hasn’t been made yet,” he said.
As for a potential talent squeeze at Red Hill if he does decide to go around again in 2027?
“We’ve certainly seen that this year at the Broncos with some quality players who missed out like Selwyn Cobbo and Jesse Arthars,” he explained.
“Madge (Michael Maguire) is a coach who picks on form, but I actually think that competition within the team is what gets the best out of each other.”
