Toowoomba is a long way from Yorkshire.

But former Super League winner with the Leeds Rhinos, Matt Parcell, has been lured out of retirement to play the 2026 Q Cup season with the Western Clydesdales.

Originally from Ipswich, the 33-year-old hooker will link with the Toowoomba-based Clydesdales who recently appointed Ben and Shane Walker as co-head coaches for 2026, after the brothers were overlooked for the Gold Coast Titans top job.

It will be the second time Parcell has played under the Walkers, having been part of the Ipswich Jets squad that won the Queensland Cup and NRL State Championship back in 2015.

Before heading to the Super League in 2017, Parcell played two seasons in the NRL featuring six times for Wayne Bennett at the Brisbane Broncos and playing fifteen matches for Manly in 2016.

Parcell hung up his playing boots just over twelve months ago having won the 2017 Super League title with Leeds and finishing runner up in the 2024 Super League competition with Hull KR under head coach Willie Peters.

He is the grandson of former Australian international Gary Parcell.
