Cody Walker has secured his future at Redfern by signing a one-year contract extension that ties him to South Sydney until the end of the 2026 season.
“This is a special group of people we have here at South Sydney – players, coaches, administration, members and fans – and I’m certain we can achieve some great things in the coming years,” Walker said.
The Rabbitohs ultimately settled on a shorter extension, mindful of the injuries that have hampered the 35-year-old playmaker in recent seasons.
Since debuting in 2016, Walker has gone on to play 222 NRL games, establishing himself as one of the most dangerous attacking weapons in the competition.

His ability to create scoring opportunities with instinctive plays and sharp vision has made him a cornerstone of Souths’ spine for nearly a decade.
Despite battling injuries this year, Walker remains central to the Rabbitohs’ plans as they look to bounce back after a disappointing campaign.

Wayne Bennett has been vocal in his support of Walker, praising both his competitiveness and his influence on younger players within the squad.
The ability to have Walker around for at least another season is as much about helping usher in the next generation of Rabbitohs playmakers as it is about his on-field performances.
Walker’s experience and creativity will be vital as the club attempts to return to finals football and re-establish itself as a contender next year.
For the fans, Walker has been a popular figure in the Rabbitohs squad for years and has become one of their modern-day favourites in the famous red and green, particularly for the large Indigenous section of the Rabbitohs supporter base where he remains incredibly popular.
Walker’s contract extension also likely signals that he will retire as a one-club player, having played all of his NRL matches for South Sydney – something that has become very rare in the modern game, and an achievement in itself.
