Sydney Roosters supremo Nick Politis is set to be the new owner of Brisbane’s most historic rugby league watering hole, The Caxton.
Located just a stone’s throw from Suncorp Stadium on Caxton Street, the Queensland Government website currently lists an application by Eumundi Group Limited, which is owned Politis’ company SEQ Hospitality Group, as ‘pending’.
Assuming the reported $50 million deal is approved, the circa 1864 pub in Petrie Terrace will become the latest in a growing portfolio of entertainment venues across south-east Queensland and northern New South Wales owned by SEQ Hospitality Group.
While nowadays Politis is most readily associated with Sydney, the Greek-born businessman actually grew up in Queensland attending Ipswich Grammar School and the University of Queensland.

In one of the more intriguing side stories, The Caxton is located across the road and barely thirty meters from The Beetson Hotel which was purchased by the ARL Commission in 2022.
According to the hotel’s own website, The Caxton has been owned and operated by the Farquhar family since 1997.
